I have received advice from all sort of people. Have dine with Royalty, worked with world leaders, talked with hookers, felt in love of stay-at-home moms. I have advised industry makers, and have listen to street vendors: and even, other travelers like me. I have listen to my parents, and people who love and have loved me, even though I haven’t act upon it.
Can’t say that some advise is better than others, but after decades of listening, and given my own experience, you start finding common basis in the general advise: you start recognizing the advise of the wise ones. Understand the world and the universe are bigger than what we can comprehend, no one holds the truth. But as the world is connected they way it is today, listen to some you might admire. This, is just an advise, a curation of them, mixed with my own. You will find your own truth. Take time to learn about yourself, will be harder for others to manipulate you, or you to get confused with the noise of the world.
The noise of the world is made by people that don’t love themselves as much as they should. You HAVE TO LOVE YOURSELF FIRST, TO BE ABLE TO LOVE OTHERS. Prioritize what are the things, concepts, and people more deer to you. Thats how you will grow into a real human. No judgement. Don’t judge, you will be surprise by what you discover in the least expected places. We are all incomplete unperfected beings, everyone makes mistakes and can have a bad day or bad decade: Don’t judge. Most of the people are geniuses in their own field, but everyone ask for the same standards for everyone, Establish your own parameters, your own measurements, take all you want as an advice, not as something 100% truth. Don’t loose focus of who you are, what you represent, what you want to communicate: when others will judge, when you feel the room taking away your inner-self, and trying to make you gray, remember what you stand for. THIS IS THE HARDEST THING TO ACCOMPLISH. No one wants to be pointed out, no one wants to be excluded. Just don’t bend, you will find the people eventually that will admire you, and vice-versa. People come and go, it’s sad most of the times, more when you have loved them. Don’t get cold after this happen, or you will grow to be cynical. Open yourself every time again and again, like if it’s the first time. Most people will advice you not to do so, as its sounds ludicrous, but you will be wiser next time, and you will be able to adapt better for a successful relationship, whatever is the kind. Don’t try to make others happy, is not your job. We are all trying to be ourselves, but most try to fit in, so others don’t judge them. To try to find happiness in third parties, is like thinking you will never be hungry again just by eating the most you can only one day: It’s just a short term thrill, and will make you sick eventually. I do not know if we are unique, I personally think we are not, and the statement is more of a marketing/motivational thing than an actual truth. But I do know our experience in our lives makes us different to the man standing next to you: respect him/her. The world is not like as it was for my father, when it was harder to meet someone from the other side of it, the chances are you will meet several great people like you along the way. Frustration is not your enemy: embrace it, learn from it. Don’t get stocked in it, even in your darkest hours, there is something that will give you happiness, even if it’s a song, just put it on repeat and keep moving forward. Music is our best friend, always have it near, you choose the soundtrack of your life: play a happy one. Being lost help you find a better way you didn’t even imagine. Go out, explore, get lost. Don’t loose your temper, then is harder to find your way back to your mythical “Ithaka” Try not to be cynical, try not to be fake, follow your inner voice, who you are, but do not impose them on anyone else. Is not your job to guide them, unless they ask. The art of not giving a fuck, is about caring enough to make an impact, but not to not care about the rest or the environment you re set in. People ask me, or just even state how indifferent I am. Don’t be indifferent, I am not. I care, and you should care too. NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW YOU CARE AND THAT YOU HELP. That works when you don’t contradict what I said in the past paragraphs, but giving to others a bit of you. Care about not harming others, nor the environment you are in. Again, impact is not the same. Always try to make an impact using what you figured out about yourself, then the chances are it will be a positive one. Rushing things is not bad. Most will tell you not to make fast moves, but most are not what you want to be. Most don’t exceed or make a huge impact in the world. There are different ages for different levels of stress and dedication: While we are young, go in a sabbatical, travel, love, see the world, dream to change it, look at how others do things, how they think about others, how other cultures see life. Find yourself or your center, and don’t rush, you play only against yourself. Once you have reach some level of understanding, focus, and put passion: go, work hard, commit, move fast, stress, be the best you can be. Then gradually slow down again, as the decades pass, as you reach goals, and as you start feeling more accomplished. Remebber, It’s not about the propose in life, is about loving what you do every day. It’s not easy to find that, because you will idealize everything: don’t! Everyone has their own theories about what life is, just work on what you love to do everyday, THINGS EVOLVE, don’t get impatient. The world is more practical than what you will ever imagine, and the people who sets the standards are not smarter than you and me. Set your own standards. Be selective of who is next to you, you are and will be as strong as who ever is at your side Learn to let go. It’s hard, you will do everything to fight it, but train yourself constantly to be able to do so. Letting go is as important, as first connecting: it will change your life, and will open your world to new opportunities. This will help you stand up. Don’t let yourself go in believes that are 100% esoteric, centered just in your espiritual being. We live in a material world, and is good to recognize it. Live it in balance. Recognize that part in yourself, and then make your choice, whether you want the needle in your compass to take you to a more spiritual plan, or a more materialistic one. But never get fooled by those who say it’s just one or the other. They will try to convince you to take only one road. It’s not bad to want to fly first class, to own a Lamborghini, or want to dedicate yourself to an NGO/Foundation. We are material and spiritual beings: don’t deny yourself to experience one or the other. Pick what you do according to your first impulse, its not easy. Learn to feel out and to listen to it. If it brings fear doesn’t mean you should not do it. Digg deeper on the reason of the fear, then try to conquer it, you are better and bigger that those fears, if you search properly, if you fight decisively, you will always win. Bring the lastrigons and the cyclops, as Ulisses did in his Quest, you will fear no longer. To translate all this to your practical life, is your biggest accomplishment. We are all there right now. There are a million ways to do it, but if this makes sense to you, it might be harder to set it up, as it means you are as confused as most of us. Read it again, and keep moving forward! |
